In honour of Mutila Mulenga, who retired on 31 December 2023, we fondly remember his illustrious career traversing over 30 years in the legal profession. As the co-founder and Senior Partner of Mulenga Mundashi Legal Practitioners, Mutila played an instrumental role in shaping the firm’s success and legacy.
Since embarking on his journey in private legal practice in 1995, Mutila demonstrated unparalleled expertise and dedication. He collaborated extensively with prominent United Kingdom legal firms such as S.J. Berwin, Hunton Williams, and Cadwalader, and Wickersham & Taft LLP. His work primarily focused on perfecting, drafting, and registering security documents for esteemed financial institutions like Standard Chartered Bank London, Glencore International AG, and the European Investment Bank. He facilitated Facility Agreements for renowned mining houses in Zambia, including Konkola Copper Mines Plc, Bwana Mkubwa Mining Limited, and First Quantum Minerals Zambia Limited.
Mutila’s contributions extended beyond legal practice. He served on the board of Intermarket Banking Corporation Limited and held the position of Chairperson until the bank underwent acquisition by another entity. Additionally, he chaired Intermarket Securities Limited and represented the Law Association of Zambia on the Securities and Exchange Commission Licensing Committee.
Upon retirement, Mutila has transitioned into a Consultant role within the firm, providing valuable insights and guidance based on his wealth of experience and expertise. Currently, he continues to make valuable contributions as a board member of QG Zambia Hotel Holdings Limited, the proprietors of the Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka.
As we reflect on Mutila’s remarkable career, we celebrate his unwavering commitment to excellence, leadership, and integrity. His impact on our firm and the legal community will be remembered with gratitude and admiration.
